BEIJING – China World Summit Wing, Beijing, together with China Fashion Designer Association (CFA), held the Young Fashion Designer Fashion Contest Grand Show in Summit Ballroom as part of Mercedes-Benz China Fashion Week in Beijing. As the highest luxury hotel in the city, China World Summit Wing, Beijing gave talented young designers a chance to shine by staging a professional Grand Fashion show.

The winners of the 18th CFA Young Fashion Designers Contest and gifted graduates from art and design academies and universities across China entered the China World Summit Wing, Beijing fashion competition some six months ago. Their inspiration came from the hotel décor elements and art pieces that decorate China World Summit Wing, Beijing – and hotel signature colours, such as black, white, gold and red provided the dramatic colour palate for the designer’s creations.

Following several exciting rounds of designing, presenting and judging, four finalists were given free rein to create a whole collection of 10 fashion pieces, including two formal dresses or evening gowns. On 29 October, the four demonstrated their collections to a CFA-appointed fashion panel, VIP guests, media and fashion professionals and famous Chinese designers, Ms. Guo Pei, Mr. Xie Feng and Mr. Wang Yu Tao. Young designer Gao Yuan, whose winning creation was inspired by a painting on the hotel’s grand floor, was announced the grand winner of the China World Summit Wing Fashion Designers Contest.

Professional models showcased 36 dresses on the purpose-built catwalk to the delight of the assembled audience.

“We wanted to see what inspiration young Chinese designers could draw from the artful decoration of our hotel,” said Thomas Schmitt-Glaeser, general manager of China World Summit Wing, Beijing. “Metamorphoses of fashion and creativity are always interesting to watch, I hope we can all enjoy the collections that young talents showcase. We are glad to be able to provide opportunities to fashion students. Perhaps, we will witness the first steps of a rising fashion star.”

The winner, Gao Yuan said: “It is my honour to join the contest, which helped me to make my dream come true – to show my own design collections on the stage. I want to thank the China World Summit Wing, Beijing for building this platform for us. It gives me confidence to keep on working hard on fashion design industry.”

The China World Summit Wing Fashion Designers Contest helped draw attention to the growing Chinese fashion industry and helped young designers get their names and style presented to the broader public and industry professionals.
