Wilderness Safaris is thrilled to announce that its newest property, Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp in Namibia, has won the accolade of “Out of this World” at the Tatler Travel Awards that took place at the Ham Yard Hotel, London on 24 November 2014.

“Hoanib is located in one of the most remote and undeveloped areas in the world, so we are extremely proud that we are able to deliver a wilderness experience that makes a positive difference, while also meeting the exacting standards of Tatler’s editors. We look forward to hosting many more guests on life-changing journeys to this special part of north-west Namibia, and sharing its incredible desert-adapted wildlife and unique attractions”, said Mike Wassung, CEO of Wilderness Safaris Namibia.

An expert panel made up of Tatler’s editorial team selected the winners; each hotel has been visited by Tatler and was chosen from the 101 hotels featured in the annual travel guide. To be awarded the Out of this World title, the property must have recently opened and feature something inspiring and new to the world of luxury travel. Describing Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, Tatler editors said: “This place is all about the location, in the wildest, driest of deserts where elephant and oryx roam over sand dunes. But it’s also about design – polished concrete and glass and the cleverest, most visually stunning tents you’ve ever seen. It is, quite simply, out of this world”.

Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is located in the remote Palmwag Concession, straddling the Palmwag area and the Skeleton Coast National Park. It combines luxurious comfort with a low-impact design that is sensitive to its fragile desert environment, operating on 100% solar power. It comprises eight stylish en-suite tents (including one family unit) each with a shaded outdoor lounge area where guests can relax and enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding desert, while the main area includes a lounge, bar area, dining room, library, fire pit, swimming pool and deck. The area is home to desert-adapted elephant, as well as gemsbok, giraffe, springbok and occasionally lion.

Hoanib can be combined with Wilderness Safaris’ other exceptional offerings in the north-west region to create an authentic and evocative desert experience within Namibia, from Damaraland and Desert Rhino Camps to Serra Cafema in the far north.
